Description
Wraithbinder is an action roguelike RPG with secrets, loot, necromancy and metroidvania-inspired ability progression from the creator of Songbringer. Each run you build a different sequence of weapons, abilities and relics. Abilities unlock new areas by allowing you to progress beyond where you could before. Keep your armor, stats and gold across runs. Play offline solo. Online co-op coming soon. The Early Access launch will be May 27th at 10 AM PT / 5 PM UTC. Act I of the game's story will be playable at Early Access launch. Online co-op and Act II will come during Early Access. Act III will come at 1.0 launch. The game will probably be in Early Access for at least a year.
History
Wraithbinder is created by solo dev Nat Weiss. Inspired by Songbringer, the game began with the goal to create a "3d pixel-art" visual hook. A custom voxel engine was developed that allows the game to resemble 2d pixel art yet be fully 3d. Characters in the game use a technique called procedural animation that allows various sections of armor and weapons to be worn that change how the character looks. Wraithbinder launched its first beta to a private group of players in October of 2022. Listening to players and improving the game thanks to their feedback led to the second beta in January of 2023 being an incremental success. More enhancements were made thanks to player feedback, including a host of art style improvements. Shortly before the game's third beta in March of 2023, the game began garnering attention from players on Twitter. The public demo was launched and Wraithbinder participated in Steam Next Fest February 2024.
