Description

Wraithbinder is an action roguelite RPG with Metroidvania inspired ability-based progression and online multiplayer, set in the Songbringer universe. Abilities unlock new areas by allowing you to progress beyond where you could before. Each run you play through a randomly-generated world while building a new sequence of weapons, relics and abilities. When you discover a new ability you get to choose between multiple options, allowing you to craft your experience. Relics are powerful artifacts that buff your character or debuff enemies in certain ways. There are usually multiple relics choices, allowing you to choose one that meets the build you are going for in the current run. When you die, you lose some of your gold and light but keep your armor and stats. There are also checkpoints you can find. Between runs you return to the hub world, your Ship, where you can permanently power up your character using the light and gold you have collected on your run. Play offline solo. Online co-op is coming soon with up to four players. In addition, a PVP mode is planned.

History

Inspired by Songbringer, Wraithbinder began with the goal to create a "3d pixel-art" visual hook. A custom voxel engine was developed that allows the game to look like a 2d pixel art game yet be a fully 3d voxel engine. Players can rotate the camera. Characters in the game use a technique called procedural animation that allows various sections of armor and weapons to be worn that change how the character looks. Wraithbinder launched its first beta version to a private group of players in October of 2022. Listening to players and improving the game thanks to their feedback led to the second beta in January of 2023 being an incremental success. More enhancements were made thanks to player feedback, including a host of art style improvements. Shortly before the game's third beta in March of 2023, the game began garnering attention from players on Twitter, which allowed the beta to become the biggest success yet. Now the public demo has been launched and Wraithbinder will be participating in Steam Next Fest February 2024. An Early Access launch will come after that.
